Conversion of nursing home to dementia care:

Adaptive re-use of existing single storeyed “traditional” nursing home by conversion to dementia care.

Issues included – Unpopular four bed wards with shared bathrooms across corridor

Solutions included – Replanning to reduce resident numbers per pod, planning to allow “back to back” pods to allow staff flexibility and efficiency, simple layouts to enable resident way-finding, domestic-scaled kitchen servery, dining and lounge area for each pod, staff overview from serveries, serveries designed to have controlled access for meaningful resident activities, single resident rooms with en-suite bathrooms.
